This training will focus on the Department of Homeland Security's Acquisition Innovations in Motion (AIiM), and specifically, its Procurement Innovation Lab (PIL). AIiM is a structure and framework for communicating the Department's approach to industry engagement and targeted initiatives designed to improve the manner in which it does business. The PIL is one of several targeted initiatives that provides a structure to take managed risks, utilize different approaches to solve problems facing the Department, and take full advantage of the flexibilities afforded to the federal government to support its mission. This training will discuss the opportunities and challenges of the AIiM and PIL initiatives, as well as strategies to communicate the benefits of these and similar structures to internal and external stakeholders.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the benefits of a specific structure and framework for establishing/supporting meaningful and recurring engagement with industry, from both an internal (federal government) and external (industry) viewpoint
  • Discuss the federal regulations and initiatives which provide for and promote transparent and meaningful engagement with industry (Myth-Busters, etc.)
  • Discuss existing flexibilities afforded to the federal government that can improve the outcomes of acquisition processes, including reducing time to award
  • Discuss strategies for training efforts that relay best practices and lessons learned across the enterprise
