The WBS is the center for all program activity. A good WBS is the basis for all future activity. A good WBS outlines the scope of the program, provides a schematic of projects required to successfully complete the program, identifies high level deliverables, serves as the basis for resource identification and serves as the basis for contracting needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the purpose of a WBS
  • Determine the elements of a good WBS
  • Differentiate between a program WBS and a contract WBS
  • Identify the impact of a WBS
